Ghanaian Footballer, Christian Atsu Found Dead

 Christian Atsu Twasam (born 10 January 1992) was a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Premier League club Newcastle United and the Ghana national team. He began his career at Porto, where he won several honors including the Primeira Liga and the Europa League. He has also played for Chelsea, Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, and Málaga. Atsu represented Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

He had been trapped under rubble for days in Turkey after the earthquake. His Manager confirms that his body has been found after a 12-day search.


Atsu was a midfielder who had played for several clubs in Europe and Africa, including Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Vitesse Arnhem. He was also a member of the Ghanaian national team, having made over 60 appearances for the Black Stars. Atsu was known for his skillful dribbling and ability to create chances for his teammates. He will be remembered as a talented footballer who left an indelible mark on the game.

"The Ghana Embassy in Türkiye which conveyed the sad news indicates that the body was recovered early this morning, Saturday 18th February 2023. The elder brother and twin sister of Christian Atsu and an Officer of the Embassy were present at the site when the body was recovered."

His teammates, colleagues, and all football teams have expressed their sadness over the death of Christian Atsu.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Ghana, his body will be transported to Ghana for burial service. 

"Government extends to the widow and family of Christian Atsu its deepest condolences. The Embassy is currently making the necessary arrangements with the assistance of the Government of Türkiye to have the body transported to Ghana for burial. The public will be updated on further developments."
